- Helpful if focus is on maximizing rides, not for more relaxed experience
What is Early Entry?
Early entry, also called rope dropping by diehard Disney fans, allows folks to enter any of the parks 30 minutes early every day. Only some of the rides are available, check out the list here on Disney’s website. This is available to all Disney World hotel guests, and some third party hotels. The full list is available in the link provided above.
Early entry is nostalgic for me because I still remember as a child having a physical rope that cast members would hold (hence where in the informal name comes from). Everyone would line up behind the rope, and once the cast members dropped it, race off the their first ride of the day. The process now is essentially the same, just without physical ropes.
Best Way to Utilize
After reviewing years of Disney World ride data, a clear pattern has immerged. Taking advantage of early entry does help you get on rides faster. You can see in the below chart, the least busy time at most parks is early morning.

The exception to this is Animal Kingdom, where you can see the lowest time is actually in the evening. Most people do early entry for Animal Kingdom and then hop to another park midday/early afternoon, so the park clears out afterwards.
Last time I used early entry, we headed to Galaxy’s Edge and were able to not only walk on the Millennium Falcon ride, but also take pictures of it without any crowds around. We also walked around the Black Spire Outpost shopping area, and it was empty during the entire early entry time. That was a really nice way to start our morning. Now the crowds did catch up with us shortly after the park officially opened.

- If you’re using line skipping programs, I recommend going with whatever ride you really want to go on, but couldn’t get booked as part of the pre-booking.
- If you aren’t using line skipping programs, make your way to the most popular ride in the park. This correlates to whatever is the ride listed under the Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Is it Worth it?
If the goal of your vacation is to maximize and see as much as possible then yes early entry is very worth it. If however you want a more leisurely pace and to sleep in then no.
Being around all that energy of people getting ready to beat the crowds always was a fun way to start my day as a child. As an adult, getting up early to race through a crowd of people isn’t my definition of fun anymore.
My favorite way to spend a Disney park day is to sleep in a little, and get to the park about an hour after it opened. This way you get to beat the crowds coming in for park opening.
